Kitchen Lighting
A great lighting scheme is designed in a series of layers and complements the natural daylight available whilst offering essential task lighting where necessary.
A great lighting scheme is designed in a series of layers and complements the natural daylight available whilst offering essential task lighting where necessary. We recommend getting your kitchen designer involved at the beginning of your project to ensure everything is in place to create the ambience you desire.
Task Lighting
This is an essential element of any lighting scheme and does exactly what the name suggests. It should be perfectly positioned to ensure the kitchen is an efficient working space and provides the best illumination for everyday tasks such as food preparation. Typically, kitchen task lighting is positioned under wall units to illuminate the worktop, giving light exactly where it is needed. If you have a kitchen island, then you can add personality to your kitchen by adding pendant lighting.
Mood Lighting
Mood lighting is used to add dimension and depth to the room in order to create atmosphere and ambience. Consider lighting along the plinth, up lighting wall units or lighting the underside of a worktop or lighting the internal of glass fronted cabinets. This is often the most overlooked element of a lighting scheme but it really does have the biggest impact and is great for when the kitchen is used as a social space. If you want to add some fun, this is the place to do it. Colour changing LEDs are a fantastic way to make a statement in your kitchen and create a party mood for entertaining.
Convenience Lighting
This lighting illuminates’ cupboards, wardrobes and drawers when they are opened for the ultimate ease of use. Integrated PIR sensors in light fittings are great as they activate the light as the door is opened and deactivate it when the door closes. This is a beautiful yet practical extra that is sure to add a level of luxury to your kitchen design.
Colour temperature
The LED colour you choose for your kitchen can have a huge impact. Warm white LEDs emit a warm and comforting yellow glow and compliment traditional style kitchens featuring wood surfaces and muted worktops perfectly. Cool white LEDs are more suited to contemporary/modern kitchen styles. They give a modern effect with the light bouncing off gloss and contemporary surfaces to create a stunning effect.
